Obama Inauguration Art
The assassination of Martin Luther King on April 4th, 1968, was a horrible event in American history which is filled with many equally sad events that involve the struggle against racial prejudice and bigotry that we, as Americans, have had to deal with. With the inauguration of our country's first African-American President, Barack Obama, it seems as if things have come full circle. In this painting I have attempted to represent this process by using Mexican bullfighting symbols to portray Martin Luther King as a bull and President Obama as a matador. If you look at both men as symbols of African-Americans' struggles for power, equality and recognition in a nation which has long posted many obstacles for them to do so, the "slain bull" of Martin Luther King and his movement has now risen to become the glamorous, highly-respected and revered "matador" of the Obama movement. The sacrifice of one has eventually led to the manifestation of the other into an icon of hope, prosperity and unity within a country that can now take even more pride in its reputation for being a melting pot for people of all colors and creeds.. . . . . .. . . .. . . click here to read moreLabels: obama_art, obama_inauguration
